Why does water make us feel so calm?

Whether it’s taking a bath, swimming in the sea or relaxing in our Hydro Pool, your body will be in a state of calm. Water triggers a release of our ‘happy hormones’ such as serotonin which elevates our mood. Water also reduces stress by decreasing cortisol (the stress hormone).


The effect water has on our body is also due to the ‘rest and digest’ response from the parasympathetic nervous system. When this is triggered, our bodies naturally relax as our blood pressure and heart rate decreases and our digestion is stimulated.
